'No one knew them, now they are everywhere': VP Radhakrishnan warns youth may follow 'cockroaches' if positive news is ignored

New Delhi: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday said young people may follow “cockroaches” if positive developments and achievements are not adequately reported.Speaking at an event, Radhakrishnan said it is the responsibility of the media to highlight positive stories that can inspire the society and guide the young generation.“Positive activities should be reported well. Only then will the youth get the correct information. Otherwise, they will lose interest and follow the ‘cockroaches’,” he said.Affirming that he is not opposed to freedom of expression, the Vice President questioned the tendency to pay excessive attention to issues that may not have lasting significance.Referring to the recent popularity of the satirical social media platform Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), especially among young people, Radhakrishnan said fleeting trends should not overshadow meaningful developments.“If something is really good, people will continue to recognize its value even after a week, 10 days or a month,” he said, according to news agency PTI.“Nobody knows about them. Suddenly, they’re everywhere. This can’t go on for long,” he said. The cockroach Janata Party emerged on social media last week after a controversy over Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s remarks during a court hearing on the “senior” designation of lawyers. The platform quickly gained attention among young users through memes and satirical comments on issues such as unemployment, exam paper leaks and education concerns. The CJI later clarified that his comments directed at individuals entering the legal profession through “bogus and bogus degrees” were misquoted. The Vice President said that constructive reporting helps build public trust, inspire collective action and inspire citizens to contribute to nation building.According to the Vice President, stories highlighting compassion, scientific achievements, community service, environmental conservation and human achievement can become powerful tools for social change.

Do you think the media should give priority to reporting positive stories?
