Nissan has released a new teaser of its upcoming Tecton SUV, providing the clearest look yet at the front-end design of the vehicle ahead of its global debut in Mumbai on July 9. Earlier teasers had revealed the SUV’s silhouette and “Baby Patrol” status. The latest image now showcases key styling elements that will define Nissan’s new mid-size SUV.
Seen in black, the new teaser reveals a bold and honest front fascia that takes clear inspiration from the larger Nissan Patrol. The Tecton features a wide grille with multiple horizontal slats, flanked by rectangular LED headlamps. A red stripe runs across the width of the grille and passes through the illuminated Nissan logo, creating a distinctive front-end signature.
Patrol-inspired design language
One of the most noticeable elements is the large TEKTON letters placed prominently on the leading edge of the bonnet. The bonnet itself looks muscular, with a high central section that further reinforces the SUV’s rugged character.
Lighting consists of vertical LED daytime running lights located on the outer edges of the bumper. With horizontal headlamp units and a wide grille, the overall design offers a strong road presence. The upright stance and square proportions also fall in line with Nissan’s strategy to position the Tecton as a more robust option within the mid-size SUV segment.
While the teaser image only focuses on the front, previously released teasers and spy shots have already revealed several other design details. The SUV has a boxy profile, flat roofline, roof rails, chunky wheel arches and connected tail lamps at the rear.
Competitors of Creta, Victoris, Seltos and Grand Vitara
Tecton will enter one of the most competitive vehicle segments in India. It is expected to compete with rivals like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hayrider, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Renault Duster and Tata Sierra.
The timing of the latest teaser is interesting as it comes as competition in the mid-size SUV sector continues to heat up. Hyundai Creta remains the segment leader, while Maruti Suzuki’s Victoris has established itself as one of the strongest contenders, emerging as the second best-selling SUV in the segment recently.
Expected Features and Powertrain
The Tecton is expected to share its platform and mechanical package with the new Renault Duster along with unique exterior and interior styling. The cabin is likely to offer dual digital displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, connected car technology and a 360-degree camera. Safety equipment may include six airbags, electronic stability control and ADAS function on higher variants.
Under the bonnet, Nissan is expected to offer the same turbo petrol engine as the Duster. The range could start with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 100 PS and 160 Nm, while the higher variants are expected to get a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing 163 PS and 280 Nm.
