JSW MG Motor India has officially unveiled the much-awaited MG Magster ahead of its launch in April 2026. First showcased as a concept at the India Mobility Expo in January 2025, the Magister now arrives in production form as the brand’s new flagship SUV for India.

Positioned above the Gloster, MG is introducing the Magister as India’s first D+ SUV and claiming it to be the longest, widest and tallest SUV in its class. With this, MG aims to carve out a niche above the traditional D-segment SUVs and offer a more spacious, premium and capability-focused option in the full-size ladder-frame SUV space.

Bold design with strong road presence
Pre-bookings have started today and the launch will take place in April 2026 and deliveries will begin in May 2026. One can pre-reserve Magister for exclusive benefits. These include 5 years unlimited km warranty, 5 years roadside assistance and 5 labour-free services. Strategic collaboration with ICICI Bank Only pre-reserved customers will get a special invite for ICICI Bank Emerald Credit Card.

Only pre-reserve customers will get exclusive previews in the future as well. There are four colors to choose from – Metal Black, Pearl White, Concrete Grey, and Metal Ash. MG Magister will be offered in three variants – Sharp 4X2, Savvy 4X2 and Savvy 4X4. It will be available with both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations.

The unveiled Magester carries forward the impressive design seen on the model unveiled at the 2025 India Mobility Expo last year. At the front, it features what MG calls the Majestic Matrix Combination Grille, which is flanked by Falcon-style LED DRLs and vertically stacked headlamp units. The overall stance is upright and imposing, clearly designed to stand out in a segment dominated by traditional body-on-frame SUVs.

The side profile highlights its large proportions, strong shoulder lines and oversized 19-inch alloy wheels, while the rear is joined by LED tail lamps, a thick bumper and twin exhaust outlets. Overall, the Magister looks like a highly evolved version of the Gloster, albeit with sharper details and more visual drama.

The MG Magster SUV measures approximately 5,046 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width and 1,876 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. It seats seven and has generous cargo capacity – 343 liters with all seats in place, expanding to more than 1,350 liters with the second row folded. The ladder-frame SUV also has 246 mm of ground clearance and a rated 810 mm wading depth, indicating serious off-road capability.

Comfort-packed premium cabin
The MG Magister offers an extensive feature list. This includes powered and ventilated seats for front and rear passengers, multi-zone climate control, large digital display, twin wireless charging pads, premium JBL Studio 12 sound system, digital Bluetooth key, 64-color ambient lighting, a large Galaxy Roof panoramic sunroof, 12-way powered driver seat, powered tailgate and advanced connected car technology.

Given its flagship positioning, the Magister is also expected to be equipped with Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof and a fully digital cockpit layout. The MG Magister also comes with 30+ standard safety features.

powertrain options
MG Magister engine options include a sole 2.0-litre diesel engine. The 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel produces up to 216 PS and 500 Nm with 4WD and 2WD configurations. Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The M-Hub off-road suite includes a 4X4 transfer case and three locking differentials.

It has 10 off-road modes and switches between 2H and 4H gears automatically and instantly. The triple locking differential is a first in the segment and it also has M-Crawl mode for ease of off-roading.

located above gloster
MG has already clarified that the Magister will not replace the Gloster. Instead, both SUVs will be sold alongside each other, with the Magister sitting higher in the lineup. This allows MG to target buyers in the Rs 45-50 lakh range looking for an alternative to established players like the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.

Now complete with its official unveiling and expected to be launched in a matter of days, the MG Magister is an important step in MG’s India strategy. By introducing the D+ SUV range and enhancing its flagship offering, JSW MG Motor India is set to take a more aggressive position in the full-size SUV segment.
