Mercedes-Benz has been a well-known player in luxury off-road vehicles and the G-Class is a shining example of the same. It is currently one of the most desirable and respected nameplates in the world. Also, this is one of the oldest nameplates from Merc Belt. However, the G-Class has always been priced premium and has never been made accessible.
This will soon change as Mercedes-Benz is set to launch a baby G-Class which will be made accessible in terms of pricing. The company has confirmed development of a smaller G-Class and it has been spotted testing on several occasions. It is set to launch sometime in 2027. Here’s what the upcoming Mercedes baby G-Class could look like.
Rendering of Mercedes Baby G-Class
Based on the spy shots, we can see renderings of the upcoming Mercedes baby G-Class by Motor1. These renders give us a hint of what the upcoming mini version of the iconic Mercedes G-Class could look like. The company has not yet revealed the name of this SUV, but has called it ‘Baby G’.

As far as design is concerned, the Mercedes Baby G more or less looks like a smaller version of the G-Class. It’s bang for the buck if you ask us. It retains the iconic G-Class silhouette with the aerodynamics of a brick. Even the rear tailgate-mounted spare wheel has been retained. The fascia features a prominent grille with almost circular LED DRLs as well as a three-pointed star.
The bumper gets fake air intakes and there may be a real bash plate below the bumper. The spy shots confirm internally fitted door hinges which can also be seen in these renders. What is missing in these renders are the fender-mounted turn indicators that the G-Class comes with.
Other notable elements of the Mercedes baby G-Class render include the straight windscreen, a clamshell bonnet, large wheel arches with flared fenders, large alloy wheels painted black and smooth roof rails. The length of this render is less than 4.5 meters and it could have a 2.7 meter to 2.8 meter long wheelbase with the Baby G.

what to expect?
Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed powertrain details on the Baby G. Initially, the company was considering an all-electric version and this render shows it in a blue shade, inspired by the MANUFAKTUR South Seas Blue Magno color seen on the G-Class electric G 580 with EQ technology.
Considering the global shift towards electric mobility is still in its early stages, Mercedes may also consider offering the Baby G with an ICE powertrain. Hybrid powertrains are another possibility. Regardless of powertrain direction, the baby G-Class is expected to be a true off-roader, living up to its G-Class name.
