Maruti sales decline in February 2026 – Dezire ahead, entry hatchback’s struggle continues

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd reported domestic passenger vehicle sales of 1,61,000 units in February 2026, registering a marginal 0.13% year-on-year growth as compared to 1,60,791 units sold in February 2025. However, sales declined by 7.75% MoM compared to 1,74,529 units recorded in January 2026. Sedans and MPVs remained the strongest contributors to volumes during the month, while several entry-level hatchbacks and some SUVs recorded notable declines.

Dezire tops Maruti sales charts

Maruti Dezire emerged as the brand’s best-selling model in February 2026 with 19,326 units sold, showing a growth of 31.5% year-on-year as compared to 14,694 units sold in February last year. On a month-on-month basis, sales declined marginally by 1.5% from 19,629 units recorded in January 2026.

Right behind it was the Brezza, which recorded 17,863 units in February 2026. This represents a YoY growth of 16% compared to 15,392 units sold in February 2025, while MoM sales improved by 2.2% compared to 17,486 units sold in January. Ertiga MPV maintained strong demand with sales of 17,807 units, showing 19.8% YoY growth from 14,868 units in February 2025. However, month-on-month sales remained almost flat with a slight decline of 0.5%.

Among hatchbacks, the Wagon R posted 14,885 units, although sales declined by a massive 25% from 19,879 units. On a MoM basis, the decline was relatively modest at 1.5%. Swift recorded 14,833 units in February 2026, marking a 9% YoY decline from 16,269 units and a 16.7% MoM decline from 17,806 units in January. Similarly, Baleno sales declined 5.5% to 14,632 units from 15,480 units, registering a 12.8% MoM decline.

The Front Crossover registered 13,898 units, which witnessed a sharp decline of 35% year-on-year compared to 21,461 units in February 2025. However, MoM sales were slightly better by 4% at 13,353 units. Sales of Maruti’s relatively new Victoris were recorded at 13,021 units in February. Compared to January’s 15,240 units, this marks a 14.6% MoM decline. Meanwhile, Eeco vans maintained steady demand at 11,620 units, showing a marginal growth of 1.1% YoY but decline of 2.5% MoM.

Alto leads the sub-10k segment

Among models sold below the 10,000 unit mark, Alto recorded 9,787 units, showing a growth of 14.6% compared to 8,541 units last year. However, sales declined 20.5% MoM in January to 12,314 units. Grand Vitara registered 5,859 units, marking a massive decline of 45% YoY from 10,669 units and 16.7% MoM decline. Grand Vitara sales have been in decline since the launch of the Victoris.

The XL6 MPV performed strongly with 3,633 units, registering an impressive growth of 93% YoY as compared to 1,878 units sold in February 2025. MoM sales were down slightly by 4.9%. Ignis sales declined 22.8% YoY and 2.8% MoM to 1,848 units. Celerio saw one of the sharpest declines, registering 862 units, down 79.6% from 4,226 units and MoM by 42.6%. Among niche SUVs, the Jimny posted 532 units, marking a growth of 38% YoY, although MoM sales fell by about 10%.

Meanwhile, S-Presso sales declined 73% YoY and nearly 77% MoM to 451 units. Premium MPV Invicto recorded 143 units, registering a decline of 62% YoY and 27% MoM. Overall, Maruti Suzuki’s February sales saw steady demand for key volume drivers like Dezire, Brezza and Ertiga, while several hatchbacks and select SUVs saw a notable decline amid a shift in buyer preference towards SUVs and MPVs.
