In international markets, the Chery Jaecoo J5 ICE version has turbo petrol and strong hybrid powertrain options
As part of the JSW Motors-Chery collaboration, a range of NEVs will be launched over four years. In recent times several test mules have been seen and various patents have been filed. One of these is the JSW Jaecoo J5 SUV, which was previously seen in its EV form. The latest spy shots suggest that the strong hybrid variant of the Jaecoo J5 may also be introduced in India.
JSW Jaecoo J5 ICE spied
Hats off to automotive enthusiast Ved Shinde for sharing the spy photos. Most of the exterior features of the JSW Jaecoo J5 ICE model remain largely the same as the EV version seen earlier. While the EV version has a closed-off grille, the ICE version can be seen with a conventional grille design with vertical slats. Other features like attractive lighting elements, rounded wheel arches and aero-optimized alloy wheels are also the same in both the versions.

The Jaecoo J5 has a boxy profile, with only a slightly thinner roofline. The SUV uses conventional door handles and has a flat beltline. The door panels have a smooth, sculpted profile, complementing the premium aesthetic of the SUV. At the rear, the Jaecoo J5 features horizontally stacked wraparound LED tail lamps, a prominent roof spoiler and a raked windshield. The tail lamps are expected to be in a connected format, with JSW Motors’ new brand name at the centre.
Jacoo J5 ICE – Interior, Features
Inside too, most of the features of the Jaecoo J5 ICE remain largely the same as the EV model. The large, centre-mounted 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system immediately catches your attention. The internationally sold Jaecoo J5 has features like panoramic sunroof, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and dual zone climate control.

Other key features include a wireless phone charger, an 8-speaker Sony sound system and a powered tailgate. The equipment of the India-spec Jaecoo J5 is expected to closely match the model sold in international markets. However, there may be some variations to suit Indian conditions and local tastes and preferences.
Like the EV variant seen earlier, this ICE variant of the Jaecoo J5 can be seen with all-black interiors. The seats come with contrasting white stitching and piping for a sporty feel. The flat dashboard adds to the clutter-free aesthetic and also ensures an uninterrupted view of the road ahead. The Jaecoo J5 offers a strong safety package, with features like 7 airbags, 540 degree surround view camera and a comprehensive ADAS suite.

Jakoo J5 – Powertrain Options
In global markets, the Chery Jaecoo J5 ICE variant is offered with powertrain options of turbo petrol and strong hybrid. The turbo petrol variant uses a 1.5-litre engine that generates 156 hp and 275 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 7-speed DCT and CVT.
The Jaecoo J5 Strong Hybrid variant is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh lithium-ion battery. Total output is 224 hp and 295 Nm. Rated fuel efficiency is 18.9 km/l. Since JSW Motors is focusing on NEVs, it is likely that the Jaecoo J5 ICE variant will use the stronger hybrid powertrain in India.

Considering the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, the Jeeku J5 could deliver with multiple powertrain options. Current bestsellers in the segment such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra and others have already used this strategy with great success. The Jaco J5 EV will take on rivals like Creta Electric, Sierra EV, Maruti Evitara, VinFast VF6 and Mahindra BE6.
