The Indian automobile market is set to witness a new carmaker brand in 2026. We are talking about the independent venture of the JSW group outside the JSW MG Motor India joint venture, which will be called JSW Motors. The company is setting up a manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which will begin assembly operations in August 2026.
JSW Motors has partnered with China’s Chery Automobiles and the company aims to launch Chery vehicles like Jaecoo J5, Jetour T2 and iCar V23 in India. Now, the Jetour T2 and Chery iCar V23 were crash tested by ASEAN NCAP. Let’s take a look at how they performed in these crash tests.
Chery iCar V23 ASEAN NCAP Crash Test
ASEAN NCAP crash testing agency has recently published the crash test results of the iCaur V23. If you are wondering whether the iCar V23 and the iCar V23 are the same, they are similar. The iCar name is exclusive to the Chinese domestic market and is called the iCar V23 everywhere else. Even the logos of iCar and iCaur are subtly different from each other.

The crashed vehicle was the Chery iCaur V23 H variant which was manufactured in 2025 with a 208 bhp electric motor and weighs 1,820 kg. The V23 offers 6 airbags as standard along with ABS and ESC across all variants. It was manufactured in China for markets such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Chery iCar V23 scored a total of 91.02 points giving it a 5 star crash rating. The SUV scored 31.77/32 points in adult occupant protection, 42.5/51 points in child occupant protection, 18/21 points for safety assist systems and 14/16 points for motorcyclist protection. The V23 also comes with several ADAS features.
Chery Jetour T2 ASEAN NCAP Crash Test
Like the Chery iCar V23, the Chery Jetour T2 is also available in India and is expected to be JSW Motors’ first vehicle for India. In the ASEAN NCAP crash test, the Jetour T2 also achieved a full-fat 5 star rating. The vehicle tested was from China for markets such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The version tested was “2”, produced in 2025 and came with 6 airbags as standard along with ESC and ABS, weighed 1,870 kg and had a 2.0 TD engine under its bonnet. It scored a total of 86.5 points, giving it a full Fat 5 star ASEAN NCAP crash safety result.

The Jetour T2 scored 29.74/32 points in adult occupant protection, 40.63/51 points in child occupant protection, 18/21 points in safety assist features and 8/8 points in motorcyclist safety assessment. Unlike the V23, which had ‘Good’ protection for the front occupants, except for the co-driver’s chest, the Jetour T2 has one area where protection was declared ‘Marginal’, which was the driver’s left shin.
