
After looking at the sales in the SUV segment and sedan segment, let us now look at the hatchback segment. The hatchback has recorded positive year-on-year growth in June 2026, while sales have declined significantly on a month-on-month basis. The 16 hatchbacks included in the sales data collectively recorded 79,419 units during June 2026, compared to 67,725 units in June 2025. This represents an increase of 11,694 units or 17.27%.
However, compared to May 2026, when these hatchbacks collectively registered 92,837 units, sales declined by 14.45%. The picture remained quite strong on a quarterly basis. Sales of hatchbacks during Q2 CY2026 stood at 2,68,163 units, up 24.15% from 2,16,000 units registered during Q2 CY2025.

Hatchback Sales June 2026 – Year by Year and Month by Month
Maruti WagonR maintained its lead with 16,952 units, growing 31.11% YoY but declining 6.22% MoM. Swift stood second with 15,215 units, up 14.61% year-on-year and down 13.15% month-on-month. Baleno sales grew 39.28% year-on-year to 12,488 units, although volumes declined by a massive 32.12% compared to May.
Alto stood fourth with 10,388 units and emerged as one of the strongest performers year-on-year, registering a growth of 105.91%. It also improved by 5.07% MoM. Tata Tiago/EV stood second with 7,329 units, up 21.50% YoY and an impressive 75.42% MoM. Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS sales stood at 4,865 units, growing by 14.82% YoY and 66.61% MoM. Toyota Glanza also remained positive on both the parameters, selling 3,512 units representing 19.54% YoY and 9.82% MoM growth.

Tata Altroz slipped 38.95% YoY and 16.78% MoM to 2,426 units. Hyundai i20 saw an even bigger decline, with 1,828 units representing 51.70% YoY and 61.51% MoM contraction. The Celerio and S-Presso also declined on both parameters. Among low-volume hatchbacks, the MG Comet EV remained almost flat at 857 units YoY, while the Citroen C3 grew 185.08% YoY and 80.36% MoM at 707 units. Renault Kwid grew by 9.58% YoY and 64% MoM to 492 units. The Citroen eC3 registered 71 units, down YoY but up MoM.

Q2 2026 hatchback sales
During Q2 2026, hatchback sales reached 2,68,163 units, while in Q2 2025 it stood at 2,16,000 units, resulting in a strong growth of 24.15% year-on-year. WagonR stood second with 53,676 units, up 33.22%, followed by Swift with 50,563 units, up 20.38%. Baleno registered a growth of 45.69% to 49,190 units, while Alto sales almost doubled to 31,131 units, growing by 99.29%.
Tiago/EV was at fifth position with 16,995 units, although the volume declined by 17.96%. S-Presso registered a strong growth of 12,626 units and 223.66%. The Hyundai i20 improved 7.03% to 12,201 units, while the Grand i10 NIOS fell 6.16% to 11,934 units. The Glanza and Altroz declined by 14.83% and 11.18% respectively, while the Celerio and MG Comet EV rose by 22.37% and 24.44%. The Citroen C3 recorded the highest percentage growth of 248.29%, albeit on a relatively small volume of 1,630 units.

OEM-wise hatchback sales June 2026 and Q2
The OEM-wise breakup highlights Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in India’s hatchback segment. In June 2026, Maruti recorded 57,332 units, growing 27.10% YoY and gaining a massive market share of 72.19%. Tata Motors was in second place with 9,755 units and 12.28% share, although sales declined 2.51% year-on-year. Registering a sharp decline of 16.57%, Hyundai stood at the second position with 6,693 units. Toyota registered a growth of 19.54% to 3,512 units, while Citroen recorded the highest percentage growth of 124.21%, albeit from a low base.
The quarterly figures further illustrate Maruti’s dominance. During the second quarter of 2026, Maruti hatchback sales grew 39.34% year-on-year to 2,03,761 units, giving it a 75.98% share. In comparison, Tata Motors recorded a decline of 15.92% at 24,922 units, while Hyundai remained almost steady at 24,135 units. Toyota sales declined 14.83% to 10,070 units. MG registered a rise of 24.44%, while Citroen doubled its volumes with a rise of 137.23%. Total hatchback sales grew 24.15% year-on-year to 2,68,163 units in Q2 2026, with Maruti contributing heavily to the segment’s incremental volume.
