Chery revives Stockmann name for new diesel PHEV pickup – once used by Mahindra, Suzuki

A turbodiesel PHEV pickup is suitable for Australia, with benefits such as advanced towing capacity and the ability to reach remote locations.

While there are several petrol PHEV pickup (ute) options in Australia, there are hardly any turbodiesel PHEV models in the mainstream segment. That will soon change, as Chery will introduce its turbodiesel PHEV pickup later this year. This is not only something new for Australia, but It may also rank first in the world in medium size Dual-cab pickup category.

Cherry ‘Stockman’ name finalized

Apart from its distinctive powertrain, Chery’s new pickup also has an interesting story behind its name. To engage enthusiasts and potential buyers, Chery held a public contest to finalize the name of the new pickup. Several entries were shortlisted, but the winning entry was ‘Stockmann’. The term is generally used to describe individuals such as cattle herders, farmers, or highly skilled agricultural workers. That’s why the name Stockman is perfect for its target audience.

What’s more interesting is that the Stockmann name was previously used by other carmakers like Suzuki and Mahindra. made in india Maruti’s Gypsy was sold under the name of Stockman. In Australia, while old Mahindra Jeep was sold as Stockman in some countries.

It’s surprising, Neither Suzuki nor Mahindra filed a trademark. This allows Cherry to move forward with the Stockmann name without any concerns over trademark violations. Suzuki has also released a statement, saying they are pleased the popular name will continue to be a part of the Australian automotive landscape.

Cherry Stockman Pickup – Features, Performance, Specifications

For now, Cherry has provided only limited details about its Stockman pickup. The vehicle has a great appearance with features like circular headlamps with integrated LED DRL, strong bumper and large wheels. Cherry Stockman is currently offered in four color options – White Opal, Serpentine, Sandstone and Obsidian. Buyers will be able to choose premium paint options at additional cost.

stockman turbodiesel The PHEV variant uses a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engineCoupled with an electric motor. Combined output is 350 kW (476 hp) and 800 Nm. The pickup is built on a ladder frame platform and is equipped with a 4WD system. The Stockman has a pure electric range of 100 km (NEDC). Unbraked towing capacity is 750 kg, while braked towing capacity is 3,500 kg.

Dimensionally, the Stockmann pickup is 5,450 mm long, 2,010 mm wide and 1,890 mm high. Its wheelbase is 3,250 mm and ground clearance is 247 mm (full load). Later, Chery will also introduce a petrol PHEV version of the Stockman. It will compete with rivals like BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger PHEV and GWM Canon Alpha.

Inside, the Stockman offers premium features like leather seats and suede lining on the dash, roof and door cards. Other key features include ventilated front seats, flat rear floor, premium sound system, dual zone climate control and wireless charging.

Chery Turbodiesel PHEV Pickup – Market Position

The Chery Stockman turbodiesel PHEV pickup could be a gamechanger for the Australian market. It combines the benefits of pure EV driving for city needs and a turbodiesel setup for long distance travel through the Australian outback. Diesel is better suited to heavier loads, is cheaper than petrol and is more readily available at remote fuel stations in the outback. By combining turbodiesel and electric, Chery can also reduce its fleet’s emissions.
