
JSW Motors has been making a lot of news in recent times. Following a strategic and successful partnership with SAIC’s MG motor brand, JSW Group aims to establish an independent venture under the JSW Motors name. Managing Director, Parth Jindal shared some details about JSW’s upcoming portfolio in the pipeline.

Recent spy shots from Pune show the heavily camouflaged Jaecoo J5, which could be JSW’s third vehicle for India. let’s take a closer look.

Chery Jacoo J5 for JSW Motors
Thanks to automotive enthusiast Chaitanya Kulkarni, we now have pictures of the Jaco J5 testing in India with heavy camouflage. This test is likely to be conducted by ARAI, which suggests intent to launch. In these latest spy shots, we can see the rear of the Jaecoo J5 SUV and its connecting tail light signature.
Jacoo is part of China-based Chery Automobile Company. Like Jetour and iCar, Jaecoo is a subsidiary brand of Chery. It could possibly launch in India under the JSW brand and could be one of the lineup that JSW Motors has or is planning for the country. According to Sajjan Jindal, JSW will launch its first vehicle around Diwali 2026.

The company is setting up a new manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Assembly operations are scheduled to begin in August 2026. The company’s first vehicle will be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), while the second and third could be BEVs (battery electric vehicles).

What does the Jacoo J5 offer?
In terms of dimensions, the Jaecoo J5 is a C segment SUV with a length of 4,380 mm, width of 1,860 mm, height of 1,650 mm and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm long. In the spy shots, we can see the Jaecoo J5 offering independent rear suspension, which is a rarity in the C SUV and D SUV segments of India. It should offer a refined ride.

It features flush door handles, LED lighting all around, wheels up to 19 inches, 5 star Euro NCAP crash safety, sophisticated ADAS suite, 540-degree cameras, powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, driver monitoring system, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 14.8-inch portrait infotainment screen, powered seats, ventilated and heated front seats, heated steering wheel, There’s an 8-speaker Sony audio system and more.
The Jaecoo J5 is available in ICE and EV versions and both get a distinctive front facia. The ICE version is a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5L turbo petrol engine and 1.83 kWh battery, with a combined maximum power of 221 bhp and combined 295 Nm torque. It is FWD with only 18.8 km/l mileage. The Jaecoo J5 EV uses a 58.9 KWh battery that promises 402 km range and uses a single FWD motor rated at 211 PS and 288 Nm.
