Just yesterday, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) announced the launch date of the Gravitas sub 4 meter three-row seven-seater MPV on its social media handles. Gravit was supposed to launch on January 21st, but as per the latest official details, it has now been postponed to February 17th.

Something similar has happened with the Nissan Tecton, which is the company’s upcoming 4.2m to 4.4m SUV. It was believed that it would be demolished tomorrow on 4th February, but it did not happen. The spying of Nissan Tecton test mules under test continues and the latest spy shots reveal more about this upcoming SUV.

The Tecton will be Nissan’s big bet in the Indian market after the company closes its account in the 4.2m to 4.4m SUV space following the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023. The Nissan Tecton will be largely based on Renault’s Duster platform which is also launching in the Indian market in the coming months.

When launched, Renault Duster will be the 14th and Nissan Tecton 15th contender in this highly competitive cut-throat segment. In the latest spy shots taken on Hosur Road near Bengaluru’s Electronic City, we can see that the Tecton is still completely hidden. It seems to be a top-spec model with 18-inch alloy wheels and 225-section wide tyres.

Compared to the Duster, the Tecton will offer a unique fascia with a more sophisticated look with connected LED DRLs that are brilliantly done. There may be less cladding with the Tecton, which looks more premium. The headlights and tail lights may be unique to the Tecton, but the fog lights may be shared between the two vehicles.

On the inside, the Nissan Tecton may have a unique dashboard with its own texture and color theme that will differentiate it from the Duster. Both cars are likely to have similar features, which is not a bad thing. A 10-inch Google OS infotainment screen, 10.25-inch TFT instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, pano sunroof, level-2 ADAS, 360-camera and more could be part of the package.

Specifications and Engine

Similar to the Duster, the Nissan Tecton can offer 700L boot (when loaded on the roof), spacious cabin and high 212 mm ground clearance. Powering the Tecton will be the same engines as the Duster – a 1.0 liter 100 PS turbo petrol, a 1.3 liter 163 PS turbo petrol and a 1.8 liter 160 PS petrol hybrid with a 1.4 kW battery pack.

Although the exact launch timeline is yet to be announced by Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd., one can guess that the Tecton could be launched in the near future. Probably soon after Duster. Pricing could be in the same ball park as the Duster.
