The new Suzuki GSX250R has now dominated the Chinese market and is likely to make its way to the global markets as well. We can’t help but wonder if this could be a hello mainstream car for the Indian market, even though reworked Gixxers are said to be in the pipeline to replace the existing models.
New Suzuki GSX250R
Suzuki’s 250cc Gixxers are some of the most underrated motorcycles available on sale in India. Both of them have consistently found themselves at the bottom of the sales charts in their respective segments. The 150cc Gixxers have also met a similar fate, suggesting that a systematic redesign could work in the company’s favour.
New Gixxers have been reported for the Indian market, but the recently launched China-spec Suzuki GSX250R looks like it might suit Indian tastes. For starters, this new GSX250R is currently only in China and is jointly manufactured by Suzuki and Haozue. Documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have revealed this new quarter-litre supersport.
For starters, the new GSX250R looks like it’s been slightly inspired by the mighty Hayabusa, which isn’t a bad thing by any means. We can see this inspiration in the fascia while the rest of the body takes a supersport silhouette, while the Busa is a sport tourer. The fascia features front winglets, which should add some downforce to help this supersport achieve tighter turns.
The ORVMs are mounted on the fairing and we can also see an aerodynamically shaped front windshield. The rider’s triangle seems to be committed, which is to be expected from a supersport. The handlebars are likely to be low-set clip-on and then we have rear-set footpegs, which will help load the rider up front for better traction.
The step for the rear occupant looks a bit high which will induce difficulties during entry and exit, but should allow better comfort on long rides. Speculations suggest that this new GSX250R may also get a TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and connected tech like navigation, music controls and more.
New SOHC engine with VVA
Cycle parts on the new Suzuki GSX250R include RSU telescopic front forks, mono-shock rear suspension, front and rear disc brakes, dual channel ABS, 17-inch alloy wheels, thick tires and more. The engine is expected to generate around 30 PS of maximum power and will come with variable valve actuation for more top-end performance while retaining the simple SOHC setup.
