
India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its strong growth in May 2026, registering total retail sales of 1,70,733 units. This represents a strong growth of 62.76% compared to 1,04,896 units sold in May 2025. Even on a month-on-month basis, the segment recorded a healthy gain of 14.79% in April 2026, highlighting the continued momentum across most of the major EV brands.
TVS Motor retained its leading position in the electric two-wheeler sector, while Bajaj Auto continued to close the gap. Ather Energy recorded its strongest growth among the top three players, while Ola Electric was the only major brand to post a year-on-year decline.

Electric 2W Sale May 2026
TVS sold 42,459 electric scooters in May 2026, registering a 64.54% year-on-year growth from 25,804 units sold in May 2025. The company achieved 24.87% market share, and maintained its position as the largest electric two-wheeler brand in the country.
Bajaj Auto was not far behind with sales of 39,202 units, registering a strong growth of 73.14% year-on-year. Bajaj’s market share stood at 22.96%, leaving it just 3,257 units behind TVS. The success of the Chetak lineup is strengthening Bajaj’s position in the rapidly growing EV market.

Ather sales double, Hero Vida increases
Ather Energy recorded the strongest performance among established players. The company retailed 28,240 units in May 2026, exactly double the 14,101 units in May 2025. With an increase of 100.27%, Ether captured 16.54% of the market.
Hero MotoCorp’s Vida range also saw impressive growth. Sales rose 158.19% to 19,067 units from 7,385 units a year ago. Vida now has 11.17% share of the electric two-wheeler market and is emerging as a serious challenger to the established EV players.

Ola Electric report decline
Among major brands, Ola Electric was the only manufacturer to record a year-on-year decline. The company sold 15,141 units in May 2026, down 20.17% from 18,967 units sold in May 2025. Despite registering a healthy month-on-month improvement of 24.4% compared to April 2026, Ola’s market share has declined to 8.87%, placing it fifth in the overall ranking behind TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero Vida.
Greaves amps recorded sales of 7,695 units, up 77.92% year-on-year. River EV continued its impressive expansion, with sales increasing 245.08% to 3,720 units, while BeGas more than tripled to 3,297 units, registering a growth of 204.71%. These figures indicate that the electric two-wheeler market is becoming increasingly competitive, with new players continuously increasing their presence alongside established brands.

Another notable trend in May 2026 was the increasing penetration of electric two-wheelers. The share of EVs in total retail sales of two-wheelers was 9.25%, up from 7.92% in April 2026 and 6.11% in May 2025. This represents an increase of more than 3 percentage points on a year-over-year basis, indicating that EV adoption continues to accelerate. While petrol-powered two-wheelers still dominate with 90.68% share, their market share has declined steadily from 93.67% a year ago as more buyers are turning to electric scooters due to expanding product options and improving charging infrastructure.
