A major power crisis occurred in Gurugram on Friday night. The transformer of the main power house of Sector-72 suddenly blew up, due to which 7 power houses were shut down simultaneously. Its effect was not only limited to electricity in homes, but Rapid Metro service also came to a standstill for more than an hour and thousands of passengers were troubled.

There is a big power house in Sector-72 of Gurugram which is of 220 KVA. That means this power house provides electricity to a very large area. The main transformer of this power house blew up. When it got damaged, the entire chain broke and 7 power houses were shut down one after the other.

The 7 power houses that were closed are: Sector-15, Sector-38, Sector-44, Sector-46, Sector-52, Sector-56 and Maruti’s 66 KVA power house. There was darkness in the areas which received electricity from all these power houses.

Rapid Metro passengers faced the most trouble. Thousands of people travel in Rapid Metro every day. Due to power failure, metro service remained closed for more than an hour. People who were in the metro or waiting for the metro had to face a lot of trouble.

Now the question is when will electricity come? According to the electricity department, it will take 8 to 10 hours to repair this transformer. That means power is expected to be restored only by late night. Till then people of all these areas will have to live in darkness and heat.

Where did the lights go off?

Talking about the areas where there was power failure, there was complete power cut in Sector-38 to Sector-57, Part-1 and Part-2 of Sector-15 and Sector-18. This means that a large part of Gurugram is in the grip of this problem.

Mercury reached 44°C in Gurugram

The heat in Gurugram continues to remain at dangerous levels. On Friday, the maximum temperature of the city was recorded between 42 to 44 degrees Celsius. The mercury reached 43-44°C in many areas. People are not getting relief even at night. Even at around 10:30 pm, the temperature remained around 33-35°C, due to which people remained troubled by humidity and heat.

India Meteorological Department i.e. IMD has issued a heat wave alert for Haryana till May 24. According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of heat is very serious at present and people should avoid going out in the afternoon.

The effect of extreme heat is now clearly visible on the electricity system as well. The demand for electricity has increased rapidly in Gurugram and Haryana, especially in DHBVN areas. Due to increasing load, pressure on the power infrastructure is increasing.

Today itself, underground feeder cables in Sector-99 to 102 area connected to Dwarka Expressway caught fire due to overheating. After this incident, electricity supply of about 4500 families was affected for about 10 hours.

Big power crisis in many areas of Mumbai

There was suddenly a major power crisis in Mumbai on Friday night. Electricity supply was disrupted in many areas of Central and South Mumbai, due to which people had to face a lot of trouble.

According to a BEST official, transformer numbers 2 and 3 tripped at around 9:25 pm after a technical glitch at the Kings Way receiving station in Dadar. This fault occurred due to air trip fault.

Due to this fault, power supply was affected in Dadar, Wadala and Parsi Colony areas. Fans and ACs suddenly stopped in many houses. At that time the weather was already very hot and humid, so people’s troubles increased further.
