We have seen BYD cars jumping in the air and even floating on water to avoid potholes. Now, BYD is flexing its engineering muscle again by showcasing flash charging versions of the 2026 Fangchengbao Bao 5 and Bao 8.

With these vehicles, BYD is showcasing cutting-edge technology like Diss P Ultra suspension technology and 1000V flash charging. These aren’t just some of the tech demos that BYD is showcasing in one of its concepts. Instead, these have been launched in China and buyers can purchase them. let’s take a closer look.

Fangchengbao Bao 5 and Bao 8 Flash Charge Edition
BYD recently launched flash charging versions of its Fangchengbao Bao 5 and Bao 8 lifestyle off-road vehicles in China. Buyers who place immediate orders can also avail some price discounts. Talking about it, the price of Bao 5 Flash Charging Edition starts at CNY 305,800 (about Rs 43.1 lakh) and the price of Bao 8 Flash Charging Edition starts at CNY 419,800 (about Rs 59.17 lakh).

The company had launched flash charging editions of Fangchengbao’s Tai series in the past months and now it was the turn of the Bao series. Thus all four of the Fangchengbao vehicles offer its new flash charging. Flash charging unlocks 1000V DC charging with a 1000C rating, which takes 10% to 70% SOC in 5 minutes and can reach 97% in 9 minutes.

The battery of the Fangchengbao Bao 8 Flash Charging Edition is of 36.8 kWh capacity and with BYD’s new second generation blade battery technology. The combined range of the Bao 8 is 1,380 km on a single fill of its fuel tank and a single full charge of its battery. BYD plans to install 20,000 of these 1000V dedicated flash chargers across the country by the end of 2026.

Disus P Ultra Suspension
Both the updated SUVs, Fangchengbao Bao 5 and Bao 8 Flash Charging Edition, are equipped with BYD’s latest Diss P Ultra suspension technology. It is a complete breakthrough in off-road assistance technologies and can come in handy on the roads too. Before we get into the use cases, let’s get the specifics out of the way.

Disus P Ultra features 200 mm body height adjustment stroke 9 tonne lifting capacity (industry leading) as well as four-wheel lift clearance facility. The system is rated for extreme temperatures between -40 to 85 degrees. Ensuring that most off-road scenarios are taken into account.
This system allows one of the wheels to be lifted into the air to change a tire without the use of any jack. It can hold the wheel in this position for 3 minutes. The system also allows driving on three wheels which can come in handy in case of a tire burst or in extreme off-roading where the road is closed for a wide vehicle to pass and in many other scenarios.
