After looking at the sales of sub 4 meter SUVs and sales of 4.2 to 4.5 meter SUVs, let us now look at the sales of SUVs in the 4.5 meter to 4.8 meter segment. It recorded healthy growth in February 2026. Total sales stood at 39,638 units, registering a growth of 26.54% year-on-year as compared to 31,325 units sold in February 2025. On a month-on-month basis, the segment witnessed a marginal growth of 1.56% compared to 39,030 units sold in January 2026.

Mahindra models continue to dominate the segment, with the Scorpio/Scorpio N and the XUV7XO occupying the top two positions. Meanwhile, the newly launched Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV has made a strong entry, leaving behind even established rivals like Tata Harrier and Tata Safari.

Mahindra Scorpio remains ahead

Mahindra Scorpio and Scorpio N retained their position as the best-selling SUVs in the segment, registering 14,665 units in February 2026. This represents a year-on-year growth of 7.69% compared to 13,618 units sold in February 2025. However, sales declined 5.64% MoM from 15,542 units sold in January 2026. The recently launched Mahindra XUV7XO took the second position. 9,112 units, registering a year-on-year increase of 22.01% compared to 7,468 units sold in February 2025, although sales were down 10.08% month-on-month.

Interestingly, the Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV recorded 3,539 units in February 2026, making it the third best-selling model in the segment. On a monthly basis, the XEV 9S witnessed a massive growth of 478% compared to 612 units sold in January 2026, highlighting the growing demand for Mahindra’s new electric offerings.

Tata Harrier recorded 3,096 units including its EV variant, showing a strong growth of 125% YoY as compared to 1,376 units sold in February 2025. However, sales declined by 16.57% MoM. Toyota Fortuner maintained a steady performance with sales of 3,076 units, registering 6.95% YoY growth and a marginal 0.98% MoM growth.

Mahindra’s other electric offering, the Tata Safari stood second with 1,650 units, registering 5.63% YoY growth, although sales declined by a massive 30.53% MoM. Combined sales of MG Hector and Hector Plus stood at 1,204 units, marking a significant growth of 133.79% YoY and 260% MoM growth. Hyundai Alcazar recorded 907 units, witnessing a decline of 28.24% YoY and 5.72% MoM.

Among other models, Skoda Kodiaq reported 146 units, registering an impressive 1360% year-on-year growth due to a low base last year. Jeep Meridian recorded 124 units, while Volkswagen Teron stood at 113 units, showing strong momentum since its launch. Jeep Compass recorded 92 units, while Volkswagen Tiguan sold 23 units during the month.

Some notable changes are also taking place in this segment. MG Gloster has been discontinued in India and will soon be replaced by the upcoming Magister SUV. Similarly, the Hyundai Tucson has also been discontinued and is expected to return with a new version later this year.

With several new launches and product updates expected in the coming months, competition in the 4.5m-4.8m SUV segment is likely to intensify further. Mahindra’s aggressive efforts with both ICE and electric SUVs are already reshaping the dynamics of the segment.
