Nissan sells the Sunny under different names depending on the market. While in the Middle East/GCC countries and India it is known as the Sunny, in some Southeast Asian markets it is known as the Nissan Almera. For Mexico and other Latin American markets, Nissan has unveiled the new generation 2027 Sunny, where it will be launched as the Versa. Let’s see the details.
2027 Nissan Sunny – What’s new?
Nissan has completely removed the signature ‘V-Motion’ chrome grille, replacing it with a more sophisticated horizontally positioned gloss black grille. The entire front fascia is new, including sharper lighting elements, top-mounted LED DRLs and a distinctive lower grille. The contemporary front look of the 2027 Sunny appears to be inspired by the new Nissan Murano.

While the face of the 2027 Sunny is new, the side profile remains largely the same. The only exception is a new design for the alloy wheels. Key features include rounded wheel arches, body-coloured door handles and a gracefully sloping roofline. At the rear, refreshed tail lamps and a slightly new tailgate with VERSA lettering can be seen.
To reduce clutter, the license plate has been moved below the border of the rear bumper. Some new color options may be introduced with the 2027 Nissan Sunny. What is seen in the pictures here is the Arctic Ice Blue metallic finish. The interior of the new Sunny is yet to be revealed. Some major updates can be expected inside as well. A refreshed dashboard, larger screen and an advanced safety package could be included.

Nissan has started production of the 2027 Sunny at its Aguascalientes A1 plant in Mexico. The previous model was being manufactured at Nissan’s CIVAC facility in Cuernavaca. The facility has been in operation for several decades and was Nissan’s first plant outside Japan. It is planned to be closed by March 2026 due to various reasons such as aging infrastructure and Nissan’s global restructuring and consolidation plans.

manual transmission turned off
The 2027 Nissan Sunny will continue with the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine. It generates 118 hp and 149 Nm torque. As with the previous model, one can choose a 5-speed manual or Xtronic CVT transmission. But with 2027 Sunny the manual has been discontinued. This may impact the entry-level price, although the exact difference will be revealed when the new prices are announced.
Reports indicate that the new Sunny may be sold exclusively in Latin American markets, including Mexico and Brazil. There is good demand for affordable sedans in these markets. At present, there are no plans to introduce the new Sunny in India, although the Sunny regularly features among the top car exports from India. Nissan will focus on SUVs and MPVs in India.
