BMW is on a new design journey, which we can see with their New Class range of vehicles. While the new platform of the Neue Klasse is specific to those vehicles, the new design language and technology is being incorporated on current platform models as well. The recently launched 2027 BMW 7 Series and i7 are a clear example of this. let’s take a closer look.
2027 BMW 7 Series and i7
While the BMW 7 Series received mixed opinions about its looks, the new 2027 model brings revised aesthetics that look better than before. We can see a more sharp and bold look for a great appearance. The new LED DRLs are flattened and the LED headlights are now vertically oriented and neatly hidden in the air intakes.
The kidney grilles have become narrower and now have more body colored elements and less black elements, which works in its favour. On the sides, the plush silhouette continues and new wheel designs are available. At the rear we can see the Neue Klasse influence in the taillights, which are now larger and almost fused. There are still some black elements around the rear bumper area.
The 2027 BMW i7 also follows a similar design journey and the 7 Series and some variants of the i7 also get a dual tone paint job. On the inside, the most notable element with the 2027 BMW 7 Series and i7 is the BMW Panoramic iDrive that brings Panoramic Vision full-width windscreen projection, which first debuted with the upcoming 5 Series facelift, i5 and X5 along with the latest iterations of the iX3 and i3.
It serves as the panoramic iDrive instrument cluster and compliments the futuristic steering wheel. Also part of the equation is the 17.9-inch free-standing central infotainment screen. The 2027 model brings a 14.6-inch co-driver entertainment screen that supports streaming, games, and more. It kind of feels like an afterthought.
Rear screen now supports touch input
The 31.8-inch 8K theater screen at the rear has been removed, but it is now a touchscreen and supports video calls via the inbuilt camera. This screen also supports HDMI input, which can mirror a laptop screen or even a streaming stick. An 18-speaker 575W system is standard and a 36-speaker 1,925W system is optional, both from Bowers & Wilkins.
20 times more computing power due to the new Neue Klasse electrical architecture, which reduces the wiring harness by 30%. Alexa integration also allows conversation capabilities. Powering the new 2027 BMW 7 Series 740 and 740 xDrive is a 400 PS 3.0L 6-cyl engine. There will be a plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive due in early 2027, with a total system output of around 490 PS. A V8 M Performance 760i version may also be in the pipeline.
With the 2027 BMW i7, we get new and more energy dense 6th generation cylindrical cells that increase the total battery capacity to 112.5 kWh and they support 250 kW DC fast charging. The 544 PS i7 60 xDrive offers a range of 563 km and a 4.6s 0-97 km/h acceleration, while the i7 50 xDrive has a maximum power of 455 PS and can accelerate to 97 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The 2027 BMW 7 Series price starts at USD 101,350 (Rs 95.33 lakh) and the 2027 BMW i7 price starts at USD 107,750 (Rs 1.01 crore).
