Apart from airbags, the 2026 Tricity 300 gets sportier styling, better braking, a new TFT dash and new colours.

Yamaha has unveiled the 2026 Tricity 300 for the European markets, which is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2026. A 3-wheeler scooter, the Yamaha Tricity 300 offers better safety and utility than a standard scooter. The 2026 version gets several updates, making the scooter significantly more desirable. Let’s see the details.

2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 – What’s New?

The most notable update for the 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 is its advanced airbag system. It has been developed in collaboration with Autoliv, a leading automotive security supplier. With this update, Yamaha Tricity 300 has emerged as the world’s first production scooter equipped with airbags.

The technology is not new, although its use in production models is quite limited. In the mainstream two-wheeler segment, the only other option with airbags is the Honda Gold Wing. However, there is a huge price difference between the Gold Wing and the Tricity 300.

The airbag system of the Tricity 300 works in a similar way to what we see in cars. G-force sensors are used to detect sudden deceleration, which would occur in the event of a frontal crash. This activates the airbag installed in the cockpit. However, airbags have a different purpose in a scooter than in a car.

On the Tricity 300, the airbag helps prevent the rider from falling onto the handlebar in a frontal impact. In such a situation, the airbag absorbs the kinetic energy, thereby reducing the risk of injury to the rider. In comparison, the airbag system in a car is designed to work in conjunction with seatbelts. It primarily protects the occupant from collision with the steering wheel or dashboard.

Better design, new features

The 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 has a sportier appearance with a new body style. Key updates include new triple LED position lamps and sharp fairings at the front and upper body. This enhanced contemporary design better aligns the 2026 Tricity 300 with the expectations of urban users. At the rear, the tail lamps have also been updated to a split line format. Color options for the 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 include Milky White, Zen Green and Power Grey.

The braking setup has been upgraded with a new Brake Control (BC) system, designed to prevent wheel lock. It also helps control chassis behavior. The brake control operates based on data received from the scooter’s inertial measurement unit (IMU). The Tricity 300 also features Unified Brake System (UBS), which automatically balances front and rear braking.

Another major update is the new 4.2-inch color TFT instrument console and a 2.8-inch LCD dash for vehicle information. When paired with Yamaha’s MyRide app, users can take incoming calls, check emails, and access music and SMS notifications. Full-map Garmin navigation is now integrated directly into the dashboard as standard.

Features that have been carried forward include traction control, Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology, standing assist system, parking brake and foot brake, larger 14-inch wheels, keyless system and a larger underseat storage.

same powertrain

The 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 is powered by a 292 cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine that generates 28 PS and 28.9 Nm of torque. It is paired with a V-belt automatic transmission. Rated fuel efficiency is 30.3 km/l. Although there are no changes to the engine, the scooter uses a new catalytic converter inside the exhaust silencer. It has been introduced to achieve compliance with stringent emission standards.

The 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 will be available in showrooms in Europe in the second quarter of 2026. Prices may be announced in the near future. Buyers will have the option to choose the standard version or the version with airbags. Yamaha has no plans to launch this new scooter in the Indian market.
