All about the digital nomad visa for Indonesia

In an effort to increase tourism, Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno recently announced a change in visa regulations that will allow remote workers to work there for an extended period of time, including in Bali, and do so tax-free.

Due to its five-year validity, its digital nomad visa would be the longest one available. The purpose of announcing such a visa is to entice more than 3.6 million foreign tourists into the nation over the course of the following year to experience their eco- and spiritual tourism.

In reference to this, Uno noted that since the borders are now open to foreign tourists, if this enables them to attract such a huge number of travelers, it will also eventually create a million jobs for Indonesians.

He continued by saying that, as opposed to the former three Ss of Sun, Sea, and Sand, people are now heading toward Serenity, Spirituality, and Sustainability.

He added that the pandemic crisis is now under control, and all the ministries are working and becoming involved, from the health department to the immigration office, and he believes this gives them an opportunity to revive this proposal.

The government currently offers Visa on Arrival (VoA), Tourist or Cultural Visa, and Country’s Free Visa, with durations ranging from 30 to 180 days, as additional visa options for digital nomads.
