Whenever there is talk of a pond or a lake, then the small water source in the village would come to your mind, where people go and bathe their cattle, but if we say that the largest lake in the world lake ever) was so big that it could contain many rivers, or even an ocean, would you believe? Recently, Guinness World Records has declared the name of the world’s largest lake (Largest Lake in history). This lake existed 10 million years ago.

According to the report of Guinness World Record, the largest lake on earth till now was Paratethys Lake, which is also known as Mega Lake. It existed 12 million years ago, i.e. 12 million years ago. This lake was from the Alps Mountains of Europe to Kazakhstan of Central Asia. At that time it covered an area of 28 lakh square kilometers. In this respect, it used to be a bigger lake than today’s Mediterranean Sea.

The lake existed 10 million years ago
This lake contained 17 lakh cubic kilometers of brackish water. Scientists have used many methods to find out about this mega lake. To estimate the size of the lake, the movement of historical tectonic plates was assessed. Apart from this, only by examining fossils, stones, and sediments etc., scientists could estimate how big this lake would be. This lake existed for about 5 million years, but due to climate change and changes in tectonic plates, its size kept getting smaller.

Scientists from different countries did research together
About 70 million years ago, it lost one-third of its water, and two-thirds of its area was lost. Gradually it was completely eliminated. Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea etc. are all derived from Paratethys. It is believed that such creatures used to live in Paratethys, which were not found anywhere else in the world. This research was done jointly by scientists from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, Russian Academy of Sciences, Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Center in Germany and University of Bucharest in Romania. This entire research was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. Dan Palku of the University of Sao Paulo.
