The eyes of this snake are amazing
The Arabian sand boa’s eyes are essential to its hunting strategy, which are located on top of its head, allowing it to see out even when buried in the sand, LiveScience reports. In this way these (eyes) help him to find the prey, while the rest of his body remains hidden inside the sand.
Arabian sand boas are not poisonous
This snake, found in the sandy desert of the Arabian Peninsula and south-western Iran, is not poisonous. However, they have teeth with which they can sometimes bite. These snakes wait for their prey by hiding in the desert sand. During this time, the eyes located on top of their head keep peeping out. As soon as the prey comes near, they attack rapidly and then catch and kill it.
These snakes eat short-fingered lizard (Stenodactylus), Baluch rock lizard (Bunopus tuberculatus) and worm lizard. Arabian sand boas are nocturnal, growing up to 15 inches (38 cm) long. They have the amazing ability to tolerate the desert heat. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, Arabian sand boas are found in many places and are not considered threatened by human activities.
