Notably, the National Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (NCPCR) took note of the controversial Instagram reel of Riva with adult male actor Karan Kundra, in which one shot was taken in a bar setting. The reel was subsequently removed following the outrage. Additionally, Riva Arora’s mother, Nisha Arora, submitted an apology letter to the commission.

In an Instagram post dated November 18, her mother wrote, “I, Nisha Arora, apologise for the video I made for my daughter Riva Arora’s account in which I used an alcohol setup and which caused so many issues and a negative image in the society. I firmly believe that, as actors and role models for society, we should portray a positive image; therefore, I am requesting that all child actors and their parents refrain from viewing such videos. I will be more careful in the future, and I have apologised to the NCPCR and provided them with all relevant clarifications.”
The Instagram reel controversy
On October 19, it was reported that an Instagram video featuring minor actor Riva Arora and actor Kunal Kundrra, 38, went viral on social media. Kundrra portrayed Riva’s boyfriend, who was already in a relationship with another man, in the film. The purpose of the reel was to demonstrate that the featured actress is having an affair with two men. The actors in the scene opposite Riva were adults, whereas Riva was not even a teenager. The film also included a scene of a 12-year-old girl sitting cross-legged in a very revealing dress in a bar. She even acted, spoke, and exhibited facial expressions as if she were an adult woman dating two men. Notably, Riva consistently received lewd comments on her Instagram posts, and men have occasionally stated that they have masturbated while viewing her photos and videos.
Riva’s mother dismissed the concerns
Later on October 23, Riva’s mother defended her daughter on Instagram. Instead of addressing her daughter’s safety, she focused on her age and claimed she was not 12 years old. Riva Arora’s mother stated, “It’s unfortunate to see well-respected publications spreading false information about a young girl without verification. My daughter is currently a sophomore. She has worked in the industry for over 13 years and has accomplished everything with the utmost honesty and tenacity.” If Arora is in 10th grade, she is likely between 14 and 15 years old, a minor who is too young to comprehend her hypersexualization.
