Maha Gov Koshyari clarifies remarks about Mumbai, Gujaratis, and Rajasthanis
Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari sparked a political controversy on Saturday when he stated that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Mumbai, there will be ‘no money left’ At a public event in Andheri, Koshyari stated that if individuals from Gujarat and Rajasthan were removed, Mumbai would no longer be the financial capital.
“I inform the citizens of Maharashtra that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from the Mumbai and Thane regions, there will be no money left. No longer will Mumbai be referred to as the financial capital “said Koshyari.
The Governor of Maharashtra clarifies his words
Shortly thereafter, as political parties criticized the remark, the governor clarified his remarks by tweeting a lengthy threat:
“Mumbai is Maharashtra’s crowning glory. It is also the country’s financial capital.
I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve as Governor for the country of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Marathi people. Due to this, I attempted to learn Marathi in a very short amount of time.
In my remarks at yesterday’s Rajasthani Samaj event, I had no intention of underestimating the Marathi man. I spoke solely about the contribution given to business by the Gujarati and Rajasthani Mandals.
Marathi people constructed Maharashtra through hard labour. Today, many Marathi entrepreneurs are renowned for this reason. They are planting the Marathi flag not just in Maharashtra, but also throughout India and around the globe. Therefore, it is impossible to undervalue the contribution of the Marathi people.
As usual, however, my statement was misconstrued. The Marathi people have made the greatest contribution to the development of Maharashtra. Recently, a tendency to view everything via a political lens has evolved; this must be rectified. A community’s appreciation is never an insult to another community.
Political parties should not stir up controversy without justification. At least, I will never offend a Marathi person. Everyone contributes to the advancement and development of this Marathi land, which is comprised of diverse castes and communities, but the contribution of Marathi people is greater.”
Political parties demanded an explanation from Koshyari.
The comment sparked a significant uproar, with political parties of the former MVA administration demanding an apology from the Governor.
“His name is ‘Koshiyari’. But as a governor, his words and actions lack any semblance of intelligence. He is only seated on the chair because we obediently followed the command “hum do.” “Senior Congressman Jairam Ramesh remarked.
In contrast, the leader of the Maharashtra Congress, Nana Patole, requested that the Prime Minister and President take the statements into account. “Koshyari may not have sufficient knowledge of Maharashtra. We condemn this assertion. The Prime Minister, President, and Home Minister should take heed. Koshyari should offer an apology and resign as governor “Patole remarked.
BJP-Shiv Sena coalition partner —
Party leader Raj Thackeray of the MNS issued a statement on Twitter condemning the remark. “Don’t speak if you don’t know the history of Maharashtra. People hesitate to criticize the Governor since he holds a position of status and honor, but his words have offended the people of Maharashtra “quoted Thackeray
He went on to say that people from other states conducted business in Maharashtra due to the Marathi people’s cultivation of the state’s soil. “Will they find such an environment elsewhere?” he inquired.
