By now you must have seen one beautiful city after another. Skyscrapers, houses equipped with amenities and sparkling lights. But there will be one thing common in all these, all the buildings will be made of concrete. But now a unique experiment is going to happen. Now the entire city will be built with wood. The buildings will also be made of wood and everything present there will be made of wood only. Don’t be surprised, Sweden has announced to build the world’s first wooden city. This will be the largest wooden city in the world.
According to CNN report, the world’s first wooden city will be built in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Danish studio Henning Larsen and Swedish firm White Architect are said to be the brain behind this. Its construction work will start from 2025 and it will be ready by 2027. In recent years, wooden skyscrapers have been built in countries like Norway, Switzerland and Australia. A huge 468,000 square feet college campus was inaugurated in Singapore in May last year. This entire college is made of wood. It is said to be Asia’s largest college made of wood.

Will be spread over 250,000 square kilometers
Real estate developer Atrium Ljungberg said that this city, which is going to be built in the south-east of Stockholm, will be spread over 250,000 square kilometers. There will be 7,000 offices in it. 2000 houses will be built where people can live. Apart from this, restaurants, shops and parks will also be built, which will give you full enjoyment of city life. According to the builder, more than 400 companies are already working at this place. You can also consider it as a five minute city. This means that within five minutes you will roam around the entire city. Workplace, home and other facilities will all be within five minutes’ walking distance of each other.
Sustainable alternative to wood concrete
Annika Anas, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg, said, we chose wood as a sustainable alternative to concrete and steel. This will prove to be a milestone in the history of innovation in Sweden. Although many experts have expressed concern about fire in wooden buildings, engineers say that wood burns relatively slowly compared to traditional steel, which is easier to extinguish. Therefore it is more safe. Timber is also a carbon sink, which absorbs carbon dioxide. Research has also found that the air quality inside wooden buildings is better. There is less carbon emission in their making also.
