Beating for the sake of wife! Here men are beaten with sticks, have to endure every pain in search of a bride.

There are many countries in the world where tribes are still living who remain in the news because of their strange traditions. These traditions may seem strange to the world, but the people of that tribe have been following them till date and behave accordingly. Many such tribes still live in Africa whose beliefs are surprising. One such tribe is Fulani (Fulani Tribe Africa) in which men have to suffer pain to get a wife.

According to BBC report, there is a tribe named Fulani in Nigeria which is found in many countries of West Africa. In this tribe there is a festival called Sharo Festival in which men are killed. That too in front of everyone. In this festival it would be decided which man would get the wife of his choice. Here, being beaten by men is considered a matter of pride and honor for them.

unmarried men are beaten
In this festival, unmarried men gather and then elders beat them with wooden sticks. Meanwhile, other people and the boys’ families watch them like spectators. The family members insist that the boy should not be incapable of taking beatings, otherwise the family will suffer because of him. If the boy is unable to bear the beating due to pain then he is considered weak and then the girl as well as her family members do not consider him a suitable groom.

Why do you bear the beatings?
The reason behind beating is that the more pain he endures, the more his love for his future wife will increase. It is believed that by bearing pain, men show that they love the girl very much and can bear any extent of pain for her. This happens not just with one boy, but with many boys simultaneously. Many times this competition is for just one girl. Many contestants gather to get a girl and the one who wins becomes the groom of the girl, or the winning boy can choose the girl of his choice. The wound left on his body is considered a symbol of his bravery. Now this belief is gradually ending. This is a Muslim tribe and they believe that doing so is haraam in Islam.
