People believe that bats have been living in this village for more than 600 years. People here consider bats auspicious and worship and serve them. As soon as you come near the 52 bigha pond here, you will start seeing a flock of bats. Seeing the bats swinging upside down on the trees, you will also start wondering why and where did such a large number of bats come here from.
Worship on the day of Nag Panchami
We are talking about Sarsai village of Hajipur block area of Vaishali district, where all the trees around a pond are inhabited by hundreds of bats. Villagers say that people from many generations have been seeing bats in this village.
Villagers said that till date the bats have not caused any harm to anyone. This is the reason why bats are also worshiped in the village on the day of Nag Panchami. According to people, there is a species of bat in this village that hangs upside down and sleeps on trees. People come from far and wide to see it. This is no less than a surprise for them.

Bats have been roosting in the village for six hundred years
Amod Kumar Nirala, resident of Sarsai village, says that this area is very special for bats. They tell that between the year 1402 to 1405, King Shiv Singh of Thakuri dynasty had dug a pond on 52 bighas of land in Sarsai village. Trees were planted around it. He says that epidemics like cholera and cholera often spread in the village.
There is a legend that once when an epidemic broke out in Sarsai and the surrounding villages, a flock of bats came and camped in the trees around the pond. After that the epidemic stopped spreading in this area. This is the reason why people here consider bats as protectors and worship them for generations. Being a mammalian creature, it is considered a form of motherhood. Whereas, due to flying at night, people also consider it to be a part of Goddess Lakshmi.
