After a train derails at Korai Station in Odisha, 3 people were killed and 4 were injured
At least three people were killed and four others were injured when a freight train derailed at Korai Station in the Jajpur district of Odisha.
The rescue operation has begun
According to the East Coast Railway, the affected waggons have been removed from the track and the final rescue operation is ongoing. The incident occurred at approximately 6:44 a.m. when passengers were waiting for a train on the platform.
“The locomotive pilot of the empty goods train travelling from Dongoaposi to Chhatrapur abruptly applied the brakes, causing eight waggons to derail and crash into passengers on the platform and in the waiting room,” according to station personnel.
Abuja Bibi (47), Parbati Bindhani (55), and Kandhei Bindhani (26), all natives of Jajpur, were identified as the victims who perished in the accident.
As a result of Monday’s shocking train derailment news, the Indian Railways have cancelled 19 trains and rerouted 20 others to alternate routes.
As soon as the incident occurred, the Accident Relief Train and Accident Relief Teams rushed to the scene to begin restoration efforts. Damaged waggons were removed from the location. Restoration efforts for Overhead Equipment are currently active.
Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted her sorrow, “I am profoundly saddened by the fatal train accident in Korai. Announcing financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved family, Rs 1 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries “.
Also, Odisha’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, expressed sorrow for the lives lost in the tragic train accident.
The Railways provided free road transportation services to stranded passengers at Haridaspur station. In addition, they were provided with free food and water at various stations and on trains.
