JSW MG Motor India has established its strong hold in the Indian electric car market. This is due to the huge success of the MG Windsor EV and the acceptance of the innovative BaaS pricing model. However, MG has not had such success with other offerings like the Comet EV and ZS EV.
Reports suggest that MG will be replacing the ZS EV and Astor with new models sometime in 2027 and the MG 4X has just been revealed, which we think is a suitable replacement for the ZS EV in India. Here’s a closer look at it.

MG 4X electric SUV revealed
The possibility of a ZS EV replacement has been floating around for some time. The MG ES5 was one of the vehicles that many speculated as a ZS EV replacement. But now, there is a new electric SUV that could be introduced for that situation. It has been revealed ahead of its global debut at the Auto China Show in Beijing next month.
In terms of dimensions, the MG 4X measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,551 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. So, the immediate rival of MG 4X is BYD Atto 2. Where length and width are concerned, the MG 4X is larger, but the Atto 2 is taller. It should be noted that the MG 4X sits below the MG S5 and MG ES5 within the MG4 family.

As far as design is concerned, the MG 4X shares many of the family design features that we have seen in other vehicles including the MG S5 and MG ES5. There is a similarity with the S5 family, especially from the rear and side profile. At the front, we have a unique fascia with a connected LED light bar, stylish LED headlights, MG branding, sporty bumper with black highlights and more.
From the sides, we can see a crossover SUV silhouette with a premium air. The neatly executed chrome window line, dual-tone machined alloy wheels, conventional door handles, charging port on the rear left quarter panel and connected rear LED tail lights are notable highlights. The interior details of MG 4X have been kept under wraps.

Specifications, Powertrain
Speculations suggest that the MG 4X electric SUV may come with a semi-solid-state battery pack with better safety offering. As per the CLTC cycle, the battery size is likely to be around 53.95 kWh and it could offer a promised range of 510 km on a single charge. It is likely to be a primarily FWD single-motor vehicle at launch.
JSW MG Motor India hasn’t confirmed whether the MG 4X will come to our shores or not, but the size and battery capacity is currently the same as the ZS EV. Thus speculations intensified. More details about the MG 4X will be revealed at the Auto China Show in Beijing next month.
