TVS Motor has been busy developing and testing motorcycles to be sold under the TVS brand, BMW Motorrad and Norton Motorcycle brands. Last year, we saw TVS launch its first ADV motorcycle, the Apache RTX 300, at Theog in Himachal Pradesh, and it also featured their new RT-XD4 engine.
The company is now preparing to start full production of two more ADV motorcycles, one is the BMW Motorrad F 450 GS and the other is the Norton Atlas GT. Both of these ADV motorcycles were recently spotted testing together, hinting at their launch in India. let’s take a closer look.
TVS Norton Atlas GT, BMW F 450 GS seen together
BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors have been in a strategic partnership for quite some time now. After 310cc platform-sharing, TVS and BMW are now working towards a new twin-cylinder platform that displaces around 420cc in the production-spec model, while the BMW F 450 GS concept motorcycle had a displacement of 450cc.
The first motorcycle to be based on this new platform will be the BMW F 450 GS, which has been spotted testing several times. It is also officially offered in a spoke-wheel variant and a top-spec Trophy variant with cross-spoke wheels. The one recently spotted in India is a low-spec spoke wheel variant.
The F 450 GS gets distinctive styling, while still belonging to the GS family. It gets LED lighting all around, a new 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster, fully adjustable front USD telescopic forks and rear off-set mono-shock suspension unit, single disc brake setup at both front and rear, dual-channel ABS, comprehensive electronic rider aids and more.
Norton Atlas GT
Norton motorcycles, on the other hand, fall under the broader umbrella of TVS Motors. This British heritage motorcycle manufacturer was acquired by TVS Motors and it has invested heavily in the complete revival of the brand. Norton Atlas GT is one of the four motorcycles that the company will launch as part of its strategies.
The other three bikes include Atlas, Manx and Manx R. It should be noted that the Norton Atlas GT and the Atlas are closely related, with the Atlas GT being the more touring-focused offering. Norton is a more premium brand and the Atlas GT gets equipment accordingly. Powering the Atlas GT is a 585 cc parallel twin-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of around 70 bhp.
Both the BMW Motorrad F 450 GS and the Norton Motorcycle Atlas GT are expected to be manufactured in India by TVS Motors. That is why both these motorcycles have been seen together during testing. There is no definite launch timeline for both the BMW F 450 GS and the Norton Atlas GT in the Indian market.
