BYD (Build Your Dreams), the world’s best-selling electric car manufacturer by volume, has recently unveiled its flagship electric SUV under the BYD brand. Called BYD Great Tang (Datang in Chinese), this large ultra luxury electric SUV is scheduled to launch today, March 5, 2026. Ahead of its launch, BYD has revealed interior and exterior images. let’s take a closer look.
BYD Great Tang luxury SUV launched
The recently unveiled BYD Great Tang luxury electric SUV falls in the full-size segment due to its size. Talking about, the length of BYD Great Tang is 5,302 mm, width is 1,999 mm, height is up to 1,800 mm and its wheelbase is 3,100 mm long. The wheel size can go up to 21-inch and the tire width can go up to 275-section.
Although the size of the battery has not been confirmed by BYD, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) has provided a glimpse of its weight and range. Depending on the variant, the BYD Great Tang can weigh between 2,640 kg and 2,970 kg where curb weight is included and up to 3,575 kg where gross weight is concerned.
In terms of design, the BYD Great Tang gets a triple tone treatment with body colour, silver contrast on the roof line, ORVMs and door handles and finally, black treatment on the actual roof. There are full-width LED DRLs at the top and the LED headlights are sleek multi-beam units arranged vertically in the bumper.
It also has an element above the front windshield in which its radar and camera units can be located. The silver element in the side profile provides good contrast and a sophisticated look. The wheels get a plush design, which is usually seen in ultra luxury vehicles. The rear is kept clean and luxurious with connected LED tail lights.

BYD Great Tang will be offered in a 7-seater layout in 2+2+3 seating configuration. The dashboard is quite simple and has three screens (one for infotainment, one for the driver’s instrumentation and one for the co-driver’s entertainment). There appear to be two wireless charging pads on the center console. The screen size has not been revealed yet.
There’s another roof-mounted screen at the back for rear-seat entertainment. Second-row occupants get lounge seats with ottomans, deployable tables, and a refrigerator. Other notable features include God’s Eye ADAS suite, DiSus-P Intelligent Body Control. Not much has been revealed about the BYD Great Tang yet, but the materials look exquisite and high quality.
So far, BYD Great Tang has only been unveiled as a pure electric full-size luxury SUV and will also have a PHEV version in the future. There will be RWD and AWD options to choose from. The maximum power can go up to 496 bhp with the RWD variant and a 288 bhp front motor will be added to the AWD variant. It has a 1000V architecture and also supports 1000 KW DC charging, which gives a range of 200 km in just 5 minutes. The range can go up to 950 km and top speed 250 km/h.
