Weston McKennie: “I think the momentum will definitely be there. Everyone wants to go into the game having won the last game. Obviously we didn’t do that tonight, but I think it will motivate us even more.”
He says all 26 players on the roster can step up and get the job done. You have to say this on behalf of your peers, but clearly that is not the case.
Zafar says
xG is 2.71 to 2.06 in favor of Türkiye. Obviously the score of 3-2 is not favorable for Türkiye
xG is a neat stat – if you haven’t seen the game.
Austin Trusty says his ankle is pretty badly twisted but he’s going to be OK.
“What did they have…three shots, three goals?”
I see three on goal, but I could have sworn Turner saved at least one.

Rick McGehee:
“The former starter has done well – can’t really fault the goals.” You cursed him.
Maybe, but that goal was really more of a defensive failure. You have to think that if the trustee had two good legs under him, this wouldn’t have happened. Türkiye was playing 11 vs 10.5.
Mary Waltz:
Hat tip to Turkey. No yellow card suspension, no injury for the United States. A good result all things considered.
There were actually a lot of positives.
Scott Bassett:
And that’s the problem, the late hit that turns the psychological tables for the second string. Of course there was a need to protect players with yellow cards, but a head-to-head match was a huge gamble and there were intangible effects of losing like this after playing reasonably Well… obviously USA USA USA is still on top but maybe going to HOT is better for them than going to HURT. Let’s see.
Peter Oh:
Hakan Sukur is also my favorite Turkish player of all time. Fond memories of the 2002 World Cup and Türkiye’s impressive third-place finish. Apparently he has been living in the Bay Area for years. It would be a dream come true to play pickup football with him someday!
Anyway, about the current team. With his great passion – some would say addiction – for football, it is surprising to see him leave the World Cup like this, cold turkey.
Now I feel a little better about my casual reference to the Turkish sub.
Question asked earlier: Did anyone play well enough to be considered as a starter or sub against Bosnia?
Starter, no. Pochettino will surely start with the same eleven that made Paraguay.
Membership? Reyna had some dangerous moments and has already scored as a sub in this cup. Reliable, if his injury isn’t too bad, he could be a late defensive sub again. At centre-back, Richards and Ream will not be worried about their job security.
A question: what is formation?
Full Time: USA 2-3 Türkiye
The scoreline pales in comparison to Türkiye, who didn’t do much in the second half other than block shots and occasionally look strong on the counter.
For the United States, the best news is that Pulisic is back and looking like Pulisic. The second half response was solid.
Target USA 2-3 Turkey (Ayhan 90 min +8)
Guler Nutmeg Pulisic. Türkiye moves the ball around. Near Uzun Post. He slips it past Turner and it reaches Ahaan to enter the house.
90 minutes +8 The US defense is a little careless, and they have to send a bouncing backpass to Turner. Not what goalkeepers want.
90 minutes +7 Dangerous cross, but Turner gets it. The former starter has performed well – can’t really fault the goals.
90 minutes +6 The match between Australia and Paraguay ended in a draw.
90 minutes +5 Somehow America is now in control. Berhalter from Pulisic to Pepi, his shot is blocked, and handball is called on Pepi. In a situation in which the referee is specifically told not to call handball. If it moves away from your body and into your arm, it is not a handball.
90 minutes +4 Zendejas takes a closer shot…oh dear…ouch.
90 minutes +4 Trustworthy comes back. Türkiye is now seizing its time.
90 minutes +3 Zendejas shoots, blocked, USA slips, and here comes the Turkish counter.
90 minutes +1 Trust is still down. There is no more sub to make. The United States can finish this game at 10v11.
A dwell time of seven minutes is indicated, but it will be more.
Türkiye will create more subscriptions. In the last round it was Ayhaan for Kokku. Now Muldur is in place of Aydin and Kahvesi is in place of Alper Yilmaz. Is this Türkiye playing to hold on to the draw?
The trustee had to stay out for a minute as he was treated on the field. We will see if he comes back on the field.
90 minutes Pulisic was fouled. The USA moved forward, and now the Trustee is down.
89 minutes I’ll come back to the Turkish subs in a minute (sorry for the wording) but I have to report that Trusty defended brilliantly while Alper Yilmaz tried to get him into a kimura. Turner collects.
88 minutes The alliance of Pulisic and Zendejas. AR raises a flag for an offside call, which, given current VAR and technology, is not worth raising a flag.
87 minutes Paraguay-Australia is still 0-0, which would relegate Australia to second place and Paraguay has a 99.99999% chance of advancing as the third-place team.
86 minutes The final US sub – Weston McKennie, the only player to start all three group games for the USA – will get a short break. Malik Tillman is on the field. The armband goes to Pulisic.
85 minutes Bad pass from Trusty, and Turkey have the numbers ahead. The United States is giving way to my interests a lot.
84 minutes Türkiye’s first deputy – Celik and Velfiz are outside, Uzun and Soyuncu are inside. Uzun is a forward for Eintracht Frankfurt.
83 min McKennie was very close to a great shot, but missed. A mad scramble ensues on the other end, in which Guler knocks Berhalter to the ground. Robinson was eventually cleared.
82 minutes Türkiye plays keepaway and cannot go more than 30 yards up the field. USA theft.
81 min Kokku’s betting shot is high. Under American occupation.
80 minutes Turkeys have had it for a long time, but dest is a pest. The US throw-in was intended for dest, but the USA struggled with the throw-in tonight. Struggling is such a weird aspect of the game.
79 minutes Turkey gained possession in its own half, then broke to the right. They swing left, and Yildiz gets a shot/cross which Turner deftly catches.
78 minutes USA plays for Pepi, but loses possession.
78 mins Pulisic barely misses! Angular shot along the ground.
76 minutes Here comes the cavalry.
Reyna is out. Aaronson out. Scally is out.
In comes Alex Freeman, one of the breakout starters of this tournament. Sergino Dest is in and Alex Zendejas gets a chance to make his debut.
75 min Solid formation with Pulisic, Aaronson, Scally and McKennie. Cleared for throw-in.
We keep hearing that there are three subs waiting in the United States, but we haven’t seen it yet.
America’s corner.
74 minutes Ultimately, 30 seconds one way or another without any dangerous chances.
73 min McKenzie fights through a jiu-jitsu hold to provoke the left attack.
72 minutes McKennie’s Juventus teammate Yıldız beat Scally and fired a shot that went wide of the far post.
71 min Before I can finish the analogy, play Biodata and it’s an awesome Türkiye Counter. Turner needs to come out and play with his legs. It’s blocked and it goes inside the box, but Turner out has everyone running towards the ball.
USA immediately passes to Aaronson, who loses the ball in the box.
An analogy for this game: Imagine a high school junior varsity game featuring some varsity players. But one team is obsessed with its hotshot sophomore until the other team brings in the kid who barely played in high school because he’s at a pro academy.
67 min So many whistles! It’s a free kick! It’s a replacement! But wait – it’s time to hydrate!
66 minutes As I was saying – Turkey is dangerous on the counter, and Trusty will have to come in from the left to center to clear the ball a few yards in front of the goal.
