3 people missing due to flash flood in Arunachal Pradesh (ETV India)
Itanagar: Flooding following heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kayi Panayor district has caused widespread damage. Due to the collapse of the retaining wall under construction, 18 houses collapsed and water entered the low-lying areas. Officials said three people are missing in the flood and traffic is disrupted due to landslides on the national highway.

Flood occurred in Kei Panayor district this morning. There was flash flood in NEEPCO Project Colony near Pusa under Yasali Circle. State Disaster Management Department Secretary Danny Sulu said that three people went missing from here. The crisis worsened when the security wall under construction collapsed during heavy rains. Due to this, a large amount of water entered the colonies and surrounding low-lying areas. 18 houses were damaged in this.
Rescue operations are in full swing
The administration directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Circle Officer to immediately reach the spot and coordinate rescue operations. A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed in the area. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been alerted. They returned to the area for relief and rescue operations. All reserve personnel and vehicles have been made ready for rescue operations in Yasali range. Danny Sulu said that services of ex-servicemen have also been taken to deal with the emergency.
The dam opened and traffic was stopped
North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has started releasing water from Ranganadi dam as a precautionary measure. Along with this, power generation in the project has been temporarily stopped. Road traffic in the district has also been affected due to heavy rains. Landslides occurred at three places on the national highway near Potin and Hoj, resulting in complete disruption of traffic. Many people are stranded here.
Machinery has been brought in for rescue and reconstruction. The highway contractor has been instructed to remove the debris from the road as soon as possible and restore traffic. Efforts are also underway to provide necessary assistance to the stranded people.

Search and damage assessment operations are underway in the affected areas. Complete details of the loss are not yet known. It has been raining heavily in Arunachal Pradesh for the last few days. This has resulted in landslides, flash floods and damage to infrastructure in many districts.
This year, monsoon has wreaked havoc in the north-eastern states. The hill state of Arunachal Pradesh is prone to landslides and floods. Therefore, disaster management forces will always have to remain alert. The disaster management authority has warned people living in at-risk areas and river banks to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel. The Meteorological Department has warned that rain will continue in the coming days.
