New Delhi: South African batsman Dewald Brevis has revealed how a simple piece of advice from MS Dhoni has stuck with him since his debut IPL season in 2022. Brewis, who joined Chennai Super Kings as a replacement player in IPL 2025, said Dhoni taught him the difference between confidence and overconfidence, which he follows even today.“One of the best pieces of advice I got from MS (Dhoni) was actually my first year of IPL, and I wasn’t in Chennai yet, but he told me ‘You’ve got two sides, you’ve got overconfidence and underconfidence, and just be more on the underconfidence side.’ And that’s the one piece of advice from him that really stuck with me,” Brewis told news agency ANI.Brewis also appreciated Dhoni’s calm nature and humility and said that he has learned a lot by watching the CSK legend closely during training sessions and team interactions.“Whenever I’ve been in the environment he’s in and just watching how he does his things and the way he lives, it’s just the person he is,” Brewis said, adding that Dhoni’s experience and knowledge makes him someone every young player looks up to.Dhoni has not played for CSK in IPL 2026 so far due to a calf injury, but Brewis admitted that his presence in the team still benefits the team. He added, “And it’s amazing to have him… I wish he could play, as I think a lot of people wish he could.”Brewis described joining CSK as a replacement player as one of the best decisions of his career. He said that the love of the fans and the franchise has made his journey special.“Coming to Chennai as a replacement player is the best decision I have ever made,” Brewis said. He said that he has improved as both a player and person during his time with the franchise.
